Most people already know that a baby shower is a party that the expectant coupleâ€™s friends or relatives have put together. Sometimes it's a surprise party, other times not, depending on the particular situation of the mom-to-be. And sometimes, for any number of reasons, the shower may have to be postponed until after the baby - or babies - are born.

And because it is a party where guests will bring gifts for the honored mother-to-be, party favors are traditionally a standard part of the party supplies and baby shower decorations, just like with any other celebratory event.

And like with any other party, sometimes it's difficult selecting just the right baby shower favors that will be handy, remembered and useful for the guests. To make that job a little easier, here are a few tips:

Check to see if the expectant parents have started to decorate the nursery and choose favors that complement the color or theme. For instance, if you give little candies in a box, have the colors match with the theme of the new baby's nursery, then you can really can't go wrong.
Look around and do some comparison shopping before making a final selection. Several stores may carry the identical items at varying prices. And you may also get a lot of ideas from a variety of magazines. So if you have a couple of months to get this all together, it's good to compare before you buy.
Ask friends or coworkers for ideas. What they did when planning a friend's or relative's baby shower or what types of favors did they receive at showers they've been to?
If you're crafty, you may be able to hand make your baby shower favors and add bookmark baby shower favors to them. For instance, my cousin found cute little flower pots that she hand decorated and put little plants into. Then she had little candies in miniature organza bags and I made bookmark baby shower favors to add to the handmade favor package. All together, she spent less than if she'd gone to a retail store and bought something fancy off the shelf.

Bookmark baby shower favors can also be used as a way to announce the new baby to friends and relatives that may not have been able to attend the shower due to distance or other reasons.
