This is one of the questions that many brides ask. As you know, timing is key in many aspects of a wedding, particularly for the save the dates and invitations.
Save the Date
Save the date cards are the “prequel” of the invitation. It’s not yet the actual invitation so some of the details are not yet disclosed, except for the date, which is the main purpose of this stationery. It informs the guests when the wedding is going to be held so that as early as possible, they can make the necessary arrangements to attend to this event.
It’s best to order these cards six to twelve months in advance, or as soon as you’ve come up with the wedding date. If you’re going to include other details like location or venue, confirm these first before sending these out. The earlier you send the save the dates, the better.
After the save the date cards comes the invitation. This is a sneak peek into your big day. Not only should you be concerned about the fact that the invite must complement the overall look and feel of the wedding, you should also find the right timing.
It’s recommended to order the invites four to six months before the wedding date. Another practical tip to follow is to add extra 25 invitations for those last-minute changes. Mailing the invitation six to eight weeks before the date is ideal to give room to mail delays and other hurdles along the way. To minimize the hurdles, be sure to check the names and addresses on the envelopes before mailing.
Reception stationery include place cards, table numbers, favor tags, guest book and so on. Ideally, make a move to buy these items at least four months in advance. Down to three months before your glorious walk down the aisle, start filling in the names on the place cards.
About two months before you say I do, start writing by hand personal notes on the wedding favors. This task can be delayed to one month before the wedding if you’re going to opt for a generic message of thanks for everyone attending the wedding.
Thank You Cards
Do you think the thing with the wedding stationery is over when the wedding is done? Not really! After all the celebration is over, you must not forget the final stationery item that you need to take care and it’s called the thank you card. It’s appropriate to order the thank you cards right after the wedding. Don’t wait until it’s two months after before you make this move. Send these out ASAP as well.
